Global Goals Australia Launches Sign-Up for 2021 Action Challenge
Global Goals Australia is today launching the sign-up for the 2021 Global Goals Australia Action Challenge to provide an opportunity for Australians from all walks of life to make a contribution to the achievement of the United Nations' 17 Global Goals for Sustainable Development and their associated 169 targets.
This challenge is about creating a movement of change as we leap into 2021 with the hopes that next year treats us kinder than this year has! Global Goals Australia encourages participants to post their journey on social media throughout the year and share this challenge with their family, friends, colleagues and community members.
Throughout this challenge, participants will receive a calendar each month with an action for each day that works towards one or more of the goals. These actions will be research-based, activity-based, community-based or family-based. Global Goals Australia has made a commitment to ensuring the actions are as inclusive as possible, so all people can participate.
"We are now a third of the way into the 15-year timeline to achieve the Global Goals," Caterina Sullivan, Global Goals Australia CEO, stated. "It's time to take real action. We often feel powerless against our governments and major corporations, but this challenge is about giving back the power to the people and showing what an impact we can have if we do our own small bit towards a sustainable future."
Progress towards the Global Goals was halted and has even regressed to some extent due to the global COVID-19 pandemic.
"This past year has made these goals more relevant than ever," Ms Sullivan explained. "2020 highlighted a number of issues in society, and this action challenge attempts to take small steps to rectify some of those issues. It's about taking people on a journey to become bolder in their activism, empowered in their decision-making and more purposeful in their living."
Sign-up for the challenge will be opened between Wednesday, December 16, 2020 and Tuesday, December 14, 2021. The first calendar will be sent on December 28, 2020 to allow participants to prepare for the challenge ahead.
